Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement criticizing comments made yesterday made by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), which compared legitimate policy disagreements between Wisconsin leaders to the domestic abuse of women:
“The head of the Democrat party’s comments yesterday in Wisconsin are a disservice to any semblance of constructive political discourse. I am tired of these cheap, dishonest scare tactics being used to try and intimidate women to vote one way or another. Women are strong, women are smart, and women deserve better than this garbage. Moreover, I am disgusted that the nation’s leading Democrat would compare legitimate policy disagreements to an instance of domestic violence. Rather than dividing Americans for political gain, we should be working together to build strong families and communities across America.”
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported yesterday that, “The Florida congresswoman said, ‘Scott Walker has given women the back of his hand. I know that is stark. I know that is direct. But that is reality.’ Wasserman Schultz added: ‘What Republican tea party extremists like Scott Walker are doing is they are grabbing us by the hair and pulling us back. It is not going to happen on our watch.’”
