WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today met with Marine General James Mattis, the president-elect’s nominee for Secretary of Defense.

Senator Fischer released the following statement after today’s meeting:

“This morning, I had a forthright discussion with General Mattis about his approach to protecting national security and restoring American leadership in an increasingly dangerous world. During our meeting, we also discussed Nebraska’s contributions to national defense as home to U.S. Strategic Command. We discussed the command’s priorities and the importance of modernizing our nation’s nuclear enterprise. I was deeply impressed by his knowledge and understanding of the threats facing our nation. I fully support his nomination to lead the Department of Defense.”
