WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. Senate passed major legislation that will dramatically change the way the VA delivers care to veterans. The John S. McCain III, Daniel K. Akaka and Samuel R. Johnson VA Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks (MISSION) Act, or VA MISSION Act, streamlines community care programs, expands support for caregivers, and provides tools for attracting and retaining top health care providers.

“I’m proud to cosponsor this meaningful legislation that will take care of our vets. This bill gives our veterans the option to seek treatment when and where it makes sense for their needs. I’m pleased Congress could work together on behalf of our veterans, and I look forward to President Trump signing this important legislation into law,” said Fischer.

The VA MISSION Act will extend the CHOICE program and streamline the various community care options into a new and easier-to-use program to give veterans the option to seek care when and where it makes sense for their needs. The legislation will also provide additional resources and authorize new programs for the recruitment and retention of VA health care providers. Additionally, the bill expands the post 9/11 caregiver program to include all eras of veterans and caregivers.

The VA MISSION Act is supported by President Donald J. Trump and Acting VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. It has also received broad support from 38 leading military and veterans groups that represent millions of veterans in the United States.
