WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer, a member of the Senate Commerce Committee and chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation and Safety, released the following statement today after the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska was awarded federal discretionary grant funding to expand its transit maintenance facility:

“Last February, I had the opportunity to visit Nebraska’s Winnebago Tribe and hear from tribal leaders about their community’s needs. I am pleased that the tribe has been awarded this grant, which will assist with critical transit repairs and maintenance. The funding will help residents travel to school, jobs, and services across Sioux City and South Sioux City.”

As part of the Tribal Transit Program, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded $528,617 to the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska to continue providing residents with safe and reliable transit services.
