LPD Captain Chris Peterson Testifies Virtually Before Senate Subcommittee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee and chairman of the Transportation and Safety Subcommittee, today chaired a hearing focused on traffic safety and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) grant programs. 

“A major factor in 94 percent of fatal motor vehicle crashes is human error. Choosing to drive distracted or impaired rather than focusing on the road can have tragic consequences. Today our subcommittee heard from Captain Chris Peterson of the Lincoln Police Department and other safety officials about ways to improve safety on the road and save lives,”said Senator Fischer.

The hearing focused on section 402 and 405 grant programs, which support states in their efforts to reduce traffic fatalities. It included the following witnesses:

-          Captain Chris Peterson, Narcotics Division, Lincoln Police Department

-          John Saunders, Director of Highway Safety, Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, representing the Governors Highway Safety Association

-          Jane Terry, Vice President of Government Affairs, National Safety Council
