WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement after Heartland Family Service (HFS), an Omaha-based non-profit organization, received $499,999 in Housing Assistance Grant funding from the Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime. The grant will provide housing and support services for people who are victims of human trafficking.

“Heartland Family Service provides essential support for individuals and families in the Omaha area. This DOJ grant will allow the organization to further assist victims of human trafficking. Through transitional housing and other forms of assistance, the organization will be able to provide safety and support to survivors of this horrific crime,” said Senator Fischer.

More Information on the Grant:

The goal of the FY 2020 Housing Assistance Grants for Victims of Human Trafficking Program is to support housing assistance for victims of all forms of human trafficking throughout the U.S. Funding through this grant supports programs that provide 6 to 24 months of transitional housing with support services to victims of human trafficking. Funding will be provided over a three-year project period. Under this project, HFS’ Heartland Housing Sanctuary, a shelter program specifically for victims of human trafficking, will be expanded to include ten units of facility-based transitional housing and ten units of short-term scattered-site housing. The project will serve 25 to 30 human trafficking survivors.
