WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement today after learning Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Anthony Kennedy, has announced his plan to retire:

“I thank Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy for his years of service to our country and the American people on our nation’s highest court. The next justice to fill this seat must be fully committed to upholding the rule of law, honor the Constitution, and avoid the temptation to legislate from the bench. As the U.S. Senate performs its role of advice and consent moving forward, I look forward to a civil, respectful, and thorough confirmation process.”
