WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald J. Trump today issued a major disaster declaration for the state of Nebraska. This declaration triggers the release of federal funds to Nebraska communities affected by Winter Storm Xanto. The storm hit 31 Nebraska counties from April 13-18. Last month, U.S. Senator Fischer (R-Neb.) led the Nebraska congressional delegation in a letter to President Trump, echoing Governor Rickett’s request for a Nebraska disaster declaration.

“Today President Trump issued a disaster declaration, which will trigger efforts to assist the Nebraska communities recovering from Winter Storm Xanto. I want to thank President Trump for his attention to our request and his quick action in issuing this declaration. This will go a long way in helping Nebraskans address damage due to the storm’s severe weather,” said Senator Fischer.

President Donald J. Trump Approves Nebraska Disaster Declaration

Today, President Donald J. Trump declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Nebraska and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by a severe winter storm and straight-line winds from April 13 to April 18, 2018.

Federal funding is available to State and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe winter storms and straight-line winds in the counties of Antelope, Blaine, Boone, Boyd, Cheyenne, Clay, Custer, Deuel, Fillmore, Garfield, Gosper, Greeley, Hall, Hamilton, Holt, Howard, Keith, Knox, Logan, Loup, Madison, Merrick, Nance, Nuckolls, Pierce, Platte, Rock, Sherman, Valley, Webster, and Wheeler.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

Brock Long, Administrator, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, named Constance C. Johnson-Cage as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected areas. 

Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the State and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
