Fischer Travels to Afghanistan, Israel

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) announced today that she and four other United States senators have recently concluded an official visit to Afghanistan and Israel. Fischer participated in the trip with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Senators John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.).

Members of the congressional delegation met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem to discuss political and security challenges facing the Middle East. In Afghanistan, the senators met with Afghan military leaders, U.S. military personnel, and top military commanders – including Major General Larry Nicholson and General John Allen, Commander of the International Security Assistance Force.

While in Afghanistan, Senator Fischer also had the opportunity to meet with service-members from Nebraska stationed abroad. Upon conclusion of the trip, Fischer stated:

“I was honored to have the opportunity to meet our deployed Nebraska service-members, shake their hands, look them in the eyes, and thank them – on behalf of all Nebraskans – for their hard work and sacrifice.”

Senator Fischer and her colleagues will return to the United States on Tuesday.
