WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer, a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, released the following statement today after USTelecom announced that Senator Fischer has won the Broadband Heroes Award for her efforts connecting communities through broadband:

“Ensuring families, communities, and businesses have high-speed internet access has long been a top priority for me, both in the Nebraska Legislature and the U.S. Senate. I am grateful that USTelecom has named me a Broadband Hero, and I will continue working to deliver broadbandinfrastructure to keep all Americans connected.”

On Thursday, Senator Fischer was honored with the Broadband Heroes Award at USTelecom’s 2020 Broadband Investment Forum, which brought together leading national policy makers, business leaders and technology innovators to assess solutions for achieving universal connectivity in America.

Senator Fischer has long advocated for increased broadband deployment. Last year, Senator Fischer joined her colleagues in writing a letter  urging the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to prioritize rural broadband access and maximize the effectiveness of the FCC’s Universal Service Fund. Additionally, Senator Fischer has supported bipartisan policies to improve broadband data mapping, expand FCC resources for telehealth-related internet connectivity, and streamline broadbandbuildout requirements for faster network deployment.
