WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the chairman of the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, which has oversight of STRATCOM, issued the following statement today after President Trump nominated STRATCOM Commander General John Hyten to serve as Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff:

“I want to congratulate General John Hyten on his nomination to be the next Vice Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. For the last three years, General Hyten has ably commanded the men and women of STRATCOM. I have benefited from his wisdom and counsel, and appreciated his strong advocacy for the importance of our nuclear deterrent. Based on his knowledge and expertise, I believe he is immensely qualified for the role of Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. I look forward to visiting with him at his confirmation hearing and hope the Senate Armed Services committee will move ahead expeditiously with his nomination to this critical position for our national security.”
