WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that states cannot remove former President Donald Trump from the ballot under the 14th Amendment.
“Americans can celebrate that the Supreme Court has rejected this authoritarian effort that would interfere in our elections and block Donald Trump from even standing for office. This ruling is a victory for our democracy and a resounding defeat for those who would abuse our Constitution for short-term political gain,” said Senator Fischer.
In January, Senator Fischer wrote an op-ed in the Washington Examiner criticizing states’ attempts to block a candidate from standing for election.
