Resource Informs Rural Communities About DoT Programs to Improve Infrastructure

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee and chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation and Safety, released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) published a toolkit as part of the Rural Opportunities to Use Transportation for Economic Success (ROUTES) Initiative:

“Rural infrastructure is critical to keeping the Heartland and the rest of the country connected. The DoT’s ROUTES Initiative provides necessary resources to help make that possible. Nebraska community leaders should review this toolkit to examine the different infrastructure improvement programs available through DoT and find out how to apply.”

The full toolkit is available here.

More information:

ROUTES is an initiative to support rural communities’ development of transportation infrastructure. As part of the initiative, DoT will collect input from stakeholders and provide information to rural communities to assist them in applying for grants. In January, Senator Fischer chaired a hearing on DoT’s rural infrastructure programs including ROUTES to discuss how Congress and the administration can work together to promote rural infrastructure improvements. See Senator Fischer’s full opening remarks at that hearing here.
