WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) met with Nebraska’s top youth volunteers and the recipients of the 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community Award, Pranav Rajan of Lincoln and Jorja Boller of Beatrice. Rajan and Boller, along with other recipients from around the country, were awarded $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for a week of recognition ceremonies.

“I enjoyed visiting with Pranav and Jorja today and learning more about their outstanding volunteer work. It’s always encouraging to see young Nebraskans become leaders and make a positive difference in their schools and communities. I congratulate both of these remarkable students on their achievements, and I look forward to seeing where the future takes them,” said Senator Fischer.

Pranav Rajan, a junior at Lincoln East High School, co-founded an organization that allows high school students to fix technological issues for local nonprofits and organizations.

Jorja Boller, a fifth-grader at Stoddard Elementary School, raised money through bake sales and lemonade stands to buy Christmas presents for retirement home residents. Her project “Gifts for Grands” has made a positive impact on numerous retirement communities across Nebraska and is expanding to other states.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program was founded in 1995 to inspire young people to make a difference in their communities. Learn more about this program by visiting their website here.
