LINCOLN, NEB. – Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement commemorating the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the 19th amendment:

“Today we honor the courageous suffragists, the pioneers who recognized that women’s full participation in our public life would strengthen our republic. The suffragists’ legacy continues to inspire generations of women to lead the way, fight for what is right, and keep striving toward a more perfect union,” said Senator Fischer.

The 19th amendment was approved by the Senate on June 4th, 1919. When Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the amendment on August 18th, 1920, the amendment was adopted.
