Fischer Will Chair Strategic Forces Subcommittee
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This afternoon, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced that U.S Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) will chair the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces for the 115th Congress.
“I’m humbled and honored to serve as chairman of a subcommittee that is so critical to our national security. There is broad bipartisan consensus in Congress that America needs now, more than any other time since the Cold War, a nuclear deterrent that is modern and effective. I look forward to ensuring this goal is achieved. The Strategic Forces Subcommittee also has direct oversight of U.S. Strategic Command,” said Fischer.
The responsibilities of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee include: nuclear and strategic forces; non-proliferation programs; space programs; nuclear weapons activities at the Department of Energy; and ballistic missile defense.
During the 114th Congress, Senator Fischer served as the chairman of the Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee.
