Surveying wildfire damage; Senate passes my bill expediting wildfire disaster assistance

As you know, we recently faced devastating wildfires—the worst in Nebraska’s history. Across the state, more than 800,000 acres burned. I was grateful U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins traveled to Nebraska to see firsthand how much damage and devastation the wildfires brought to farmers and ranchers.

After surveying the damage, I returned to Washington and headed to the Senate floor. There, I asked the Senate to unanimously approve my bill, the Emergency Conservation Program Improvement Act, to expedite ag producers’ access to federal disaster relief. Click below to watch my speech on the Senate floor. I’m proud this bill passed the Senate, and I’ll continue pushing to get it signed into law.

Helping Nebraskans navigate the federal government

An important part of my job is helping Nebraskans when they run into issues with federal agencies. Whether you need assistance with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Social Security Administration (SSA), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), or other federal agencies – my office stands ready to assist. Contact information can be found on my website, fischer.senate.gov, where you can also send a direct message.

Here’s a case we recently solved for a Nebraskan:

Funding for Grand Island’s Central NE Regional Airport

It was an honor to participate in a ribbon cutting for Central NE Regional Airport’s brand-new Snow Removal Equipment Building. An important part of my job is making sure taxpayer dollars are invested back in Nebraska. I’m pleased to have secured federal funding for this project, which will keep the airport runway safe for travelers flying out of Grand Island.

On-the-ground in Seward

I had a great visit in Seward recently to catch up on what's new around town. First, I stopped by the Nebraska National Guard Museum and heard about their plans for America250 (celebrating 250 years of America!) and made a stop at the civic center to see their renovations. I ended the day with a tour of the Seward Wellness Center as they were celebrating their first anniversary since opening.
