Dear Friend,

Each weekend, when I'm in Nebraska, I'm able to talk with constituents, receive updates on ongoing projects, and learn about exciting initiatives happening in our state.

I recently toured the new UNMC Cancer Center with UNL President Hank Bounds and Chancellor Jeffrey Gold. I was also able to meet with various constituent groups, including the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Nebraska AARP, the Lincoln Independent Business Association, and more. I look forward to continuing these meetings and visiting with Nebraskans in the coming months.

Celebrating 150 Years of the Good Life

Click here to view Senator Fischer's latest video celebrating Nebraska's 150th Birthday.

I was privileged  to celebrate Nebraska's 150th birthday by offering a floor speech and passing a Senate Resolution, that honors this historic milestone. Congratulations to the people of the great state of Nebraska, as we celebrate our rich history, the exciting present we are building, and the brighter future we will have in our next 150 years.

Judge Gorsuch: A Great Choice for Supreme Court Nominee

Last month, I had the honor of meeting with President Trump's Supreme Court Nominee, Judge Neil Gorsuch. In our meeting, it was abundantly clear that Judge Gorsuch has the judicial temperament, as well as a long history of upholding the rule of law. These are the exact characteristics a Supreme Court justice should possess. Now, it is up to the Senate to conduct a thorough confirmation process. I look forward to reviewing Judge Gorsuch's record in detail as part of this vigorous 'advice and consent' process.

Rebuilding USA Infrastructure

Our nation is in need of updated infrastructure. Recently, I introduced the Build USA Infrastructure Act, modeled after similar legislation I successfully introduced and passed in the Nebraska Unicameral. My bill would effectively address future funding of the Highway Trust Fund, without raising taxes on Americans, and would also give states greater flexibility in meeting transportation needs.

As Chair of the Senate Commerce Surface Transportation Subcommittee, this issue is a top priority for me. For more details about the Build USA Infrastructure Act, click here to view my opening remarks from the first Surface Transportation Subcommittee hearing of the 115th Congress.

Putting Nebraskans Back in Charge of Water Resources

I was proud to stand behind President Trump as he signed an executive order to roll back the WOTUS rule. Over the years, I have called attention to the harmful effects the "Waters of the United States" (WOTUS) rule would have on Nebraska communities. Under this rule, taxpayers would have paid more for road maintenance costs and ag producers would have faced expensive permitting requirements. I'm happy to see the president take this much-needed step to unravel WOTUS and put Nebraskans back in charge of decisions affecting our state's water resources.

Calling for Responsible Transparency and Oversight

Last year's troubling ransom payment to Iran underscored the dire need for greater transparency and oversight of the U.S. Treasury Department's Judgment Fund. Last month, along with Senator Lankford (R-Okla.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), and Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), I introduced the Judgment Fund Transparency and Terrorism Financing Prevention Act. Our legislation would ensure this much-needed oversight of the Judgment Fund and prohibit taxpayer-funded payments to nations that sponsor terrorism. With clearer oversight of this fund, Congress can effectively track taxpayer dollars and encourage responsible foreign policies that protect the American people.
