On the Road in August

Dear Friend,

During the August state work period, I spent my time doing the essential part of my job as the U.S. Senator for Nebraska: listening to the people who sent me to Washington to advocate for their values and priorities. It’s during these visits with my fellow Nebraskans that I learn the most about the issues our communities face and what resources they need to be successful.

I had a productive roundtable discussion in Gering to hear directly from our police officers and law enforcement officials about the challenges their departments face. In Congress, I will always support our men and women in blue as they work to keep Nebraskans safe.

Following the roundtable, I was interviewed by the Scottsbluff Star-Herald to discuss the One Big Beautiful Bill and my work on behalf of Nebraskans in Congress. Read more here.

At the 2025 Federal Legislative Summit, hosted by the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, I joined my colleagues to discuss my priorities for Nebraska and how the policies we’ve championed are making our communities more prosperous.

I’m particularly proud that my Paid Family & Medical Leave Tax Credit has been signed into law, which allows employers of all sizes to voluntarily provide paid leave to workers caring for loved ones — without jeopardizing their jobs or financial stability.

It’s no secret that Nebraska is the beef state and an ag producing powerhouse in the United States. I was pleased to show Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins our state’s #1 economy during her visit.

We had a productive and robust roundtable discussion at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s ENREEC facility with Reps. Adrian Smith, Don Bacon, Mike Flood, and Interim Vice President and Vice Chancellor of Agriculture and Natural Resources Tiffany Heng-Moss, along with Nebraska ag producers and stakeholders. We also toured the Klosterman Feedlot Innovation Center, where the Dean of Agricultural Research, Derek McLean, is leading critical research which will benefit our ag producers.

I had a wonderful time touring the Ainsworth Childhood Development Center, where Nebraskans are working together to meet a vital need—access to quality childcare.

Their dedication is making a real difference for families in the community.

I always enjoy catching up with Graig at KBRB radio and answering all his questions! Thanks for letting me stop by.

In Gordon, I got to see what all the 'buzz' was surrounding the McDonald's honey producing operation. The McDonalds have been producing honey for 37 years and are independent, wholesale beekeepers.

I appreciated the up-close view (and taste!) of the honey produced by their bees.

I always love stopping by KNEB in Scottsbluff and catching up with Scott!

I enjoyed touring and meeting with those who work at the Chadron Early Head Start preschool. I have always been a supporter of this much needed program.

I had a wonderful evening catching up with a few familiar faces at Nebraska Farm Bureau!

I was honored to be this year’s recipient of American Farm Bureau’s Golden Plow award. In the Senate, I’ll continue to do my part to support Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers.

I had a wonderful morning visiting with Nebraskans at the Double L Country Store and Cafe, located in Harrisburg.

I always enjoy discussing the issues impacting our shared communities over a nice cup of hot coffee!

For more than a century, Chadron State College has provided students with a quality education. I enjoyed meeting and chatting with Interim President Dr. Jodi Kupper to hear how the school continues to set students up for success.

I had a wonderful afternoon touring Lapaseotes Feed Yard in Bridgeport. I was also able to see the Lapaseotes’ sugar beets operation and receive an update on this year’s harvest. Great to see young leaders taking charge in Nebraska’s top industries!

It's always good to chat with Hunter Arterburn and the rest of the folks at The Big Boy 98.7.

It was great to catch up with Alex and answer questions at 1340 KGFW.

Had a wonderful meeting with the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Chancellor Neal Schnoor. I appreciated the sneak peek of the new Douglas A. Kristensen Rural Health Education Complex on campus. This will be a great addition to the University and allow for Nebraska’s next generation of healthcare professionals to learn and grow.

University of Nebraska Medical Center's Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center in Kearney is bringing critical care closer to patients. I had a great time touring their facility and hearing about the care they give Nebraskans in their time of need.

Every August, it’s amazing to see how Nebraskans choose to invest in their communities.

The Haymaker Creative District in Cozad is a perfect example of neighbors working together to bring joy to their community while showcasing the beauty of the Good Life.

After the visit, I was interviewed by Cozad Local. You can read the story here.

Nebraskans deserve access to high quality care regardless of their age. I’m grateful for facilities like Pole Creek Estates in Sidney for providing Western Nebraska’s seniors with the care they need.

As a top five producer of sugar beets nationwide, the Western Sugar Cooperative and its growers play a vital role in Western Nebraska’s economic success. I enjoyed receiving a tour and update from those on the ground who run this operation efficiently and effectively.

Papa Moon Vineyards & Winery – located in Scottsbluff and run by a young family – is a testament to hard work and exemplifies the American dream. I was able to receive a tour of their vineyard and even taste some of their cider, too!

Always great to see Jacob and the rest of the team at Rural Radio Network!
