Dear Friend,

In June, we unanimously passed the Winnebago Land Transfer Act, which I introduced in the Senate. The legislation will transfer wrongfully seized land back to the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, and it’s now headed to the president’s desk to be signed into law.

I fought for Nebraska’s best interests by backing more “farm” in the Farm Bill, and I called for increased accountability and transparency for Amtrak.

I also pushed back against President Biden’s reckless immigration agenda and worked to fortify America’s defense.

Read more about my work for you below.

In the 1970s, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wrongfully seized land from the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska through eminent domain.

After hearing from the Winnebago Tribe about the injustice they’ve experienced, I introduced the Winnebago Land Transfer Act to right this wrong.

Last month, the Senate unanimously passed the bill, voting to return the land that rightfully belongs to the Winnebago Tribe. I look forward to seeing it signed into law.

Another group I’ve heard from in Nebraska is our ag producers. Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers need a strong Farm Bill that delivers on their priorities. That’s exactly what the Republican Farm Bill framework does.

Our framework provides the tools necessary for American agriculture to thrive. It also includes three of my bills that will make precision ag technology more accessible and increase broadband connectivity to the last acre.

Last month, the Senate also unanimously approved my resolution to designate May 29th as “Mental Health Awareness in Agriculture Day” to recognize the unique challenges producers face while working to produce high-quality food, fuel, and fiber.

American taxpayers have funded Amtrak for decades, despite serious concerns about the company’s governance and fiscal responsibility.

Last month, I sent a letter to Amtrak Chairman and Director Anthony Coscia questioning the company’s exorbitant bonuses for top-level executives. I also introduced the Amtrak Transparency Act to pull back the curtain and allow both Amtrak partners and the public to weigh in on Amtrak policy and decisions.

It’s not just Amtrak that needs to get its act together. After President Biden announced his reckless new policy awarding amnesty to illegal immigrants, I spoke out.

To the Biden administration, the border crisis is just a game of political calculations. But his negligence has created a humanitarian and national security crisis.

The President must learn that rewarding illegal behavior begets only more of it.

Critics of nuclear weapons are calling for a significant reduction in our land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles, many of which are located in Nebraska. Opponents of our nuclear arsenal forget just how critical these weapons are for our national defense.

The reality is that we are not living in a peaceful, nuclear-free utopia. We cannot act like we are.

In June, my colleagues and I on the Senate Armed Services Committee released our version of the National Defense Authorization Act. A dangerous world demands strong investment in our military, and that's what our defense bill delivers, both for Nebraska and the country as a whole.

I supported a pay raise for our military servicemembers and secured funding for STRATCOM and Offutt Air Force Base. I also secured several provisions from my Restoring American Deterrence Act, which would prepare our nation for any nuclear threat.
