On the Road in August

Dear Friend,

This past month, I spent my time doing my favorite part of the job: traveling our state and meeting with countless Nebraskans along the way. In total, I visited 36 Nebraska communities this August.

It’s during these visits with my fellow Nebraskans that I learn the most about the obstacles communities face and what resources they need to overcome those obstacles.

I will take what I learned during these conversations back to Washington as I advocate for Nebraskans in the U.S. Senate.

Read more below for a recap of my travels:

It was wonderful to hear from the Valentine Economic Development Board. The Board has done so much to invest in our community of Valentine, and I look forward to hearing about their future projects!

One of my favorite visits this August was to Valentine’s small businesses. It was great to catch up with old friends and see their visions come to life!

I met with some familiar faces at Cherry County Hospital to discuss the issues plaguing our state’s rural hospitals. In the Senate, I’m focused on prioritizing and improving our rural health care.

I took a trip down memory lane when I stopped by Valentine Community Schools. I’m proud of the work they are doing to ensure that Valentine’s students have everything they need to be successful!

I enjoyed talking with Mike and the rest of the folks at KVSH Radio. Thank you for informing Nebraskans about what’s happening in both Washington and our state.

I love visiting with the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department. This incredible team is tireless in keeping Chadron and surrounding communities safe!

I had a great time in Hemingford visiting small businesses along Main Street. I loved meeting the owners of Treasured Grounds Coffee, Table Top Meats, Valor General Store, Dave’s Pharmacy, and LOCAL Gift Boutique and Tea Lounge. Small businesses like these play a critical role in rural Nebraska’s economy!

I had a good discussion with producers in Alliance about ways we can address workforce shortages and ensure that Nebraska’s ag exports reach the global market.

Nebraska’s education system plays a crucial role in our next generation's success. That’s why I was thrilled to see everything Bridgeport Public Schools has to offer their students and community.

As I traveled western Nebraska, I visited downtown Bridgeport businesses with Mayor Breyer. I am always grateful to connect with local Nebraskans!

I checked another item off my bucket list at Chimney Rock Public Power District! They do good work ensuring that their customers have reliable access to power.

I sat down with business and ag leaders in Scottsbluff for a productive conversation about boosting productivity in Nebraska’s ag industry. I’ll bring their contributions back to Washington with me.

Heritage Estates in Scottsbluff invited me to tour their facility. I was blown away by their staff’s efforts to ensure that every resident feels at home.

As a former School Board Member, I always enjoy visiting with Nebraska’s educators while touring schools across the state! Scottsbluff Schools is providing the next generation of Nebraskans with the skills they need to thrive through its career academy focused curriculum.

Lukjan Metal Products is a leading manufacturing company in the Sidney area. I enjoyed touring their facility and learning about the important work they do!

One of my stops this work period was Sidney’s Veterans Affairs Clinic. We had a great discussion about how we can improve care for our veterans, focusing specifically in rural areas. I will continue to advocate for our veterans in Congress.

The Sentinel program in Kimball County will be a cornerstone of America’s nuclear deterrence strategy for decades to come. I met with members of the community to learn how we can support them during the project’s construction. I appreciate their commitment to America’s national security!

Nebraskans need access to affordable health care, and Perkins County Health Services does admirable work to provide it. I enjoyed touring their facility and hearing about all that they do.

I met with the Upper Republican NRD to discuss how we can continue to support Nebraska’s producers in the upcoming Farm Bill.

I enjoyed stopping by Community Hospital in McCook to learn about the innovative ways they are addressing staffing issues. Reliable healthcare is critical for our state to thrive.

I stopped by the North Platte Chamber for a tour of their community. I loved seeing the chamber’s visions come to life!

During my tour of Darr Feedlot, it was incredible to see their innovation to meet demands. Keep up the good work!

Rural airports like Jim Kelly Field in Lexington ensure that Nebraska remains connected to the global market. I appreciate their efforts and will continue to support aviation across the state.

I had a great time meeting Joe Klute and learning more about his family’s operation as I toured Phelps County Feeders. Nebraska’s ag industry is in good hands with leaders like him at the helm!

We had a productive conversation at the Lower Republican NRD office about the importance of keeping “farm” in the Farm Bill.

I am a firm believer that Nebraskans must have access to reliable healthcare close to home. I appreciate the work CHI Health Good Samaritan is doing to serve central and western Nebraska!

I enjoyed meeting with leaders from Kearney Police Department and Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department to discuss how we can support them as they keep our communities safe.

I am grateful to see the strong sense of community Good Samaritan Society – Hastings Village is building for their residents. It was one of my favorite stops this August!

The community of Red Cloud continues to provide a strong example for what’s possible when its residents collaborate on a shared vision. I was thrilled to see the exciting developments along the historic main street.

Strong leadership and vision from the Thayer County Economic Development Association has led to many exciting advances in the retail, healthcare, childcare, and agriculture sectors in the community of Hebron. It was exciting to see some of these developments firsthand.

I was happy to join members of the Nebraska Hospital Association at their quarterly district meeting to discuss how we can improve our healthcare system.

It was a privilege to visit with First Five Nebraska and Nebraska child care providers for a roundtable discussion. Affordable child care is essential to Nebraska, and these caretakers are doing good work to make it accessible.

I had a wonderful time meeting with Nebraska representatives of the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) to hear about the ways they are serving children, families, and communities in our state.

I am proud of the investments Ashland-Greenwood Public Schools are making in their students' lives. Nebraskans’ education is of critical importance, and I will continue to hold our state’s education to a high standard.

One of my stops this work period was Ruhlman’s Steakhouse! This new establishment is a great place for customers to dine.

I was grateful to participate in the Federal Legislative Summit hosted by the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Greater Omaha Chamber, and the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce. I joined the rest of the Nebraska delegation to discuss our work for Nebraska’s businesses in Congress.

It was an absolute treat to tour Baker’s Candies in Greenwood. I loved learning the ins and outs of how they make the world’s best chocolate!

I joined producers from across the state for a roundtable discussion during the Nebraska State Fair. I appreciate them coming to the table to have an honest conversation about the issues facing Nebraska’s ag industry.

I had a blast crowning the Grand Champion Babydoll Southdown Ewe at the Nebraska State Fair! Congratulations to all of this year’s State Fair exhibitors for a job well done.

Across our state, Nebraskans are giving back to their communities and building a better future for all. I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about so many of our state’s communities during the August state work period. I’ll take what I learned this past month back to Washington as I support Nebraska as a member of the U.S. Senate.
