I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. As we enter into the Christmas season, the Senate is focused on addressing a variety of issues.
While we have overcome much over the last two years, our nation still faces significant challenges.
Inflation is the highest it has been in over 30 years. Serious threats from foreign adversaries, like China and Russia, are growing. President Biden and congressional Democrats are pushing a multitrillion-dollar spending agenda full of wasteful entitlement provisions.
Continue reading to see how I have been working to tackle these challenges for Nebraska.
This Thanksgiving was one of the most expensive holidays in our country’s history. In Nebraska and other Midwest states, consumer prices were up 7.3% over the last year. Nebraska families are feeling this record inflation at the grocery store. The Biden administration’s economic policy failures are hurting the country. I recently participated in a press conference discussing these issues. You can watch my remarks here.
On the Senate floor recently, I highlighted the growing dangers China poses to the world. From the Chinese Communist Party’s human rights violations to China’s expanding nuclear weapons program, we must ensure that our country is prepared to keep pace with these threats. Congress must come together and invest in modernizing our nuclear capabilities and restoring military readiness.
In a time where we are seeing prices skyrocket, the Democrats are offering a reckless multitrillion-dollar Build Back “Broke” package. This legislation is stuffed with billions in spending on “niche items” like “tree equity” and huge tax credits for e-bikes. This proposal is an affront to the American people, who are wondering how these items will stop inflation.
I am proud to have introduced the bipartisan Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act. This legislation will ensure every segment of the beef supply chain, from producers to feeders, packers, and consumers, can succeed. Cash sales are the basis of price discovery. One or two regions of the country shouldn’t be forced to shoulder the burden of price discovery, but that’s what has been happening. Our bill would fix that. It’s time for Congress to act to restore fairness. I am hopeful that we have the momentum now to get this legislation passed into law.
Photos of the Month:
I joined Meals on Wheels in Lincoln to deliver meals to local seniors. It was so
lovely to have time to visit with such wonderful people who gave me the gift of
amity during this special season.
It was great meeting with Farm Credit Services of America earlier this month. We
discussed the important work they do to support Nebraska’s agricultural industry
and farming communities.
I enjoyed visiting with Nebraska Chamber President Bryan Slone to discuss
issues affecting Nebraska businesses. I am working every day to ensure that our
state’s economy can remain innovative and competitive.
It was great to sit down with NRG’s Neil Nelkin on News Talk 1290 KOIL. We
discussed issues facing Nebraska and our country like rising inflation and the
open-border policies of the Biden administration.
Thank you for reading this update and being part of the democratic process.
