Dear Friend,

I hope your new year is off to a good start.

As we begin the 118th Congress, I want to update you on critical issues I’ve been working on this past month.

These issues include standing up for life, supporting ag producers through the Farm Bill, and investing in Nebraska’s military community.

Continue reading to see what I have been working on for the people of Nebraska.

I was proud to join thousands of Nebraskans at the annual Walk for Life. The weather was cold, but our hearts were warm as we shared our love in giving voice to the voiceless.

As a mom and grandmother, I believe we need to provide all the support we can for women and children. The pro-life community promotes the safe birth of healthy babies and vibrant futures for every child.

In the Senate, I have joined my Republican colleagues in reintroducing a series of bills to protect life. This includes everything from prohibiting the approval of new dangerous, on-demand abortion pills to permanently banning taxpayer funding for abortions.

I’ll continue supporting life during this 118th Congress. I pray that we as Nebraskans will reflect our pro-life values by discussing the abortion issue with grace and empathy and that we remember the love and good faith that stems from our optimism about life.

This year, Congress will reauthorize the Farm Bill, important legislation that impacts agriculture policy for the next five years.

As a member of the Senate Ag Committee, I can tell you we’re already hard at work on this bill.  I have heard from Nebraska family farmers and ranchers about protecting the farm safety net, gaps in the federal programs, and possible improvements.

One thing the Farm Bill should especially address is precision agriculture, which can help producers drive down input costs and increase yields. My bill, the Precision Ag Loan Act (PAL Act), would expand farmers and ranchers’ access to these exciting new technologies

I’ve also drafted a bill that would give producers quick and efficient disaster relief. These are the kinds of solutions folks are hoping to see in the Farm Bill.

I look forward to continuing to work on the Farm Bill over the coming months and collecting additional feedback from Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers.

At the start of a new Congress, Senators receive their committee assignments. Work on these committees is just one of the many ways that I can work to help the people of Nebraska.

I’m pleased to share that in addition to my roles on the Armed Services, Ag, and Commerce Committees, I will be joining the Senate Appropriations Committee.

This new position will ensure Nebraskans have a stronger voice at the table when it comes to reining in irresponsible spending and fighting President Biden’s radical agenda.

I remain committed to using all these committee assignments to deliver for Nebraskans every single day.

In 2019, massive flooding damaged over one third of Offutt Air Force Base and destroyed many of the 55thWing’s facilities. Since then, the men and women at Offutt have had to be flexible, at times working out of a World War II-era bomber factory. I’m pleased to report that I helped secure $360 million for Offutt to continue efforts to repair and rebuild the base.

I was able to join the 55th Intelligence Support Squadron at Offutt recently to celebrate the official opening of their new headquarters. I enjoyed meeting with these brave men and women who do such crucial work to keep our nation safe.

Every year, I have the honor of nominating talented young men and women to our nation’s military service academies. Each of this year’s 18 nominees has an excellent academic record, proven leadership skills, and a desire to serve our country. I am confident that they will be exemplary officers in the United States military.

It was a pleasure speaking at the Lancaster County Farm Bureau Dinner on January 13th. I spoke about my work on the Senate Ag Committee and the steps our committee is taking as we begin considering the Farm Bill. I also discussed the bills I’ll be working on this Congress, like the Precision Ag Loan (PAL) Act that will help farmers and ranchers lower input costs and boost yield.

It was wonderful to meet with the Nebraskans visiting D.C. for the National Corn Growers Association’s Leadership Academy! We had a great discussion about Mexico’s misguided corn ban, the importance of biofuels, and the need to ensure a strong safety net in this year’s Farm Bill.

I enjoyed speaking at this year’s Saunders County Livestock Association Banquet. I’ll continue fighting for Nebraska family farmers and ranchers, especially as we dig into the 2023 Farm Bill.

Our founders knew that our Creator gave each of us the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. First among these is life! I was proud to stand with many Nebraskans to celebrate the miracle of life.

Thank you for reading this update and being part of the democratic process.

Sincerely,

Deb Fischer
U.S. Senator for Nebraska
