Fischer Returns to Lincoln Southeast High School Friday

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) will visit her alma mater, Lincoln Southeast High School, on Friday, October 23, 2015. On this special visit, Fischer will view updates to the campus during a walking tour of the school and receive the Distinguished Alumni Award. She will also meet with Dr. Steve Joel, superintendent of Lincoln Public Schools, to discuss education policy and progress at Lincoln Southeast.

Over the summer, Senator Fischer worked on and supported the Every Child Achieves Act, which passed the Senate in July. This bill would provide states with greater control over their education policies. Senator Fischer was praised for her work on this legislation, which has been endorsed by the Nebraska Association of School Boards, the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association, the Nebraska Association of School Administrators, the Nebraska State Board of Education, the Nebraska State Education Association, and the Greater Nebraska Schools Association.

Before serving in the Nebraska Legislature, Fischer served on her local school board in Valentine. She also served on the Nebraska School Finance Review Committee and as president of the Nebraska Association of School Boards.
