Fischer Votes to Ensure Congress Has Say Over Iran Deal

WASHINGTON – This afternoon, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly passed legislation that will ensure congressional oversight of any nuclear agreement with Iran. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a vocal critic of the Obama administration’s handling of this deal, released the following statement this evening:

“By passing this legislation, we are ensuring that Congress and the American people have a say in any nuclear agreement with Iran. Only a month ago, congressional review of any agreement with Iran was portrayed as controversial – or even unnecessary. Today the bill passed with overwhelming, bipartisan support.

“I’m hopeful that this new congressional backstop will help strengthen the hands of our negotiators to craft a better deal. We must remain vigilant over the terms of this agreement. The safety and security of our nation must continue to be our first priority.”
