WASHINGTON, D.C. – This evening, the U.S. Senate voted unanimously 90 to 0 to confirm Robert Rossiter, Jr. to serve as a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska. U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) played an active role throughout the nomination and confirmation. She first recommended Rossiter’s nomination with former Senator Mike Johanns. Senator Fischer released the following statement:

“I am thrilled to congratulate Bob Rossiter on his confirmation to the federal bench in Nebraska. As a federal judge, Rossiter will serve Nebraska with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to the rule of law. I wish him all the best during his service to our state and our nation.”

After Judge Joseph Bataillon announced he would retire from regular active service, Senators Fischer and Johanns began a statewide search for a replacement. They accepted applications for more than four months before announcing their selection of Mr. Rossiter to fill the vacancy. Traditionally, the president gives deference to home-state senators for selection of nominees for the district court.

President Obama nominated Rossiter on June 11, 2015. Senator Fischer testified in support of his nomination at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on September 30, 2015. One month later, on October 29, 2015, the committee voted to approve his nomination and send it to the full Senate for consideration.

Following today’s confirmation by the Senate, the president will sign a commission, formally investing Mr. Rossiter as a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Nebraska.

Mr. Rossiter is currently a partner at the law firm of Fraser Stryker in Omaha. He graduated cum laude from Creighton University School of Law in 1981, where he served as the Executive Editor of the Creighton Law Review. After receiving his law degree, Rossiter clerked for U.S. District Court Judge C. Arlen Beam on the District Court for the District of Nebraska.
