Judicial Nominations for U.S. District Court
The U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska consists of three active judgeships. In September, 2013, Judge Joseph Bataillon announced that he will move from active service to senior status on October 3, 2014, leaving a vacancy on the court.
Under the U.S. Constitution, judicial nominations are made by the president “by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate.” Typically, home state senators and the White House Counsel work together to select qualified candidates to fill U.S. District Court judgeship vacancies.
We invite applications from qualified candidates. The application process entails completing a comprehensive questionnaire detailing a candidate’s background and qualifications. This questionnaire is the one used by the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary to vet all federal judgeship nominations (U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals, and U.S. District Courts). Candidates must respond to all questions, except 20, 22, 23, and 26. (It is important to note that this personal financial data will be required at a later date from any finalists, as it is required by the White House and the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, before moving forward with the confirmation process).
A letter of interest should be submitted, along with the completed questionnaire by January 10, 2014. References and letters of recommendation are welcome. The letter, questionnaire, and any accompanying documents should be emailed to judicial@johanns.senate.gov by January 10, or postmarked by January 10 and mailed to 9900 Nicolas Street, Suite 325, Omaha, NE 68114.
For questions about the process, please contact Senator Jhanns’ Washington, D.C., office at 202-224-4224.
Thank you for your interest,
