Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) today released the following statement marking National Pediatric Brain Cancer Awareness Day:
“When I introduced a resolution designating September 26, 2013, as National Pediatric Brain Cancer Awareness Day, it was my hope this first day of national recognition would offer an opportunity to educate families and encourage others to get involved in an important cause. Today, Nebraskans are proud to join the Hoffman family in their dedicated efforts to raise awareness for pediatric brain cancer and show support for Atkinson’s own Jack Hoffman and the thousands of children across the country suffering from this horrible disease.
“I thank the Hoffmans for their inspiring courage and leadership, and I thank all those commemorating National Pediatric Brain Cancer Awareness Day today. It is by stepping up and working together that we can make a meaningful impact in fighting this disease, enhancing treating options, and unlocking a cure.”
In April, the Senate unanimously adopted a bipartisan resolution Senator Fischer offered to honor Jack Hoffman and designate September 26, 2013, as “National Pediatric Brain Cancer Awareness Day.” Full text of the resolution is available HERE.
When introducing the resolution, Fischer also delivered remarks on the Senate floor to highlight Jack Hoffman’s story and recognize the unique struggles of those suffering from pediatric brain cancer. Video of her remarks can be found HERE.
