Thanks for reading the July Monthly Record!
Hello again to my fellow Nebraskans and welcome back to the Monthly Record. This month, I have recorded a brief video message to provide a quick recap of business before the Senate during the month of July. From my official fact-finding trip overseas to the Middle East over Independence Day, to a bipartisan compromise on student loans, to questioning the implementation of ObamaCare, you’ll find updates on these issues and more below. Click HERE or the image below to watch the brief video message.
As the Senate begins its state work period for the month of August, please click here to find a schedule of public events I will be attending or holding throughout the state. I look forward to visiting with Nebraskans in over a dozen different towns and communities. This August recess offers an important opportunity for me to hear your concerns in person and engage in an open and substantive discussion about these important topics affecting your daily lives … http://1.usa.gov/16oV1wc
IN OTHER NEWS ….
Fischer Introduces Judgement Fund Transparency Act
For far too long, billions of dollars have been awarded in lawsuits by the Federal government, with almost no information available to the public regarding the nature of the lawsuits. The Judgment Fund Transparency Act I introduced with Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Mike Crapo (R-ID) will provide hardworking taxpayers and Members of Congress the ability to see exactly how their tax dollars are being spent on litigation costs. Senate Passes Bipartisan Student Loan Compromise
The student loan bill the Senate passed in July will lower interest rates for all students and help middle class families afford a college education. Tying interest rates to the market will protect taxpayers and lock-in longterm, historically low rates for all loans. I was pleased to support this solution, which provides certainty for all students in a fiscally responsible manner … http://1.usa.gov/1cvUnjs
Fischer Cosponsors Legislation to Protect Private Information of Farmers and Ranchers
One of the main concerns I hear from Nebraskans is the heavy hand of federal bureaucracy in their daily lives. The EPA’s reckless behavior in releasing confidential information of farmers and ranchers is just one of the latest instances for the hundreds of private citizens, families, and business owners in our state who were affected. This legislation takes the necessary steps to ensure the release of their information that should be kept private does not happen again…. http://1.usa.gov/16oQVUM
Fischer Cosponsors Bill to Block Costly National Energy Tax
The president’s energy tax plan is bad news for Nebraskans. The bottom line is more regulations and higher costs for middle class families, who are already over-taxed and over-regulated. The legislation I’m cosponsoring with several of my colleagues simply requires the president to submit his new energy tax proposal for a vote in Congress, rather than enacting it through executive fiat. The American people have a right to have their voices heard, and that means having their elected representatives weigh in … http://1.usa.gov/12LAHGz
Calling for Permanent Delay of ObamaCare
As many Nebraskans know, the Obama Administration recently announced that implementation of the employer mandate in the president’s health care law would be delayed until 2015. Senator Mike Johanns and I, along with many of our colleagues, wrote President Obama to call for permanent delay of this disastrous law for all Americans, rather than extending temporary relief from the law for just big businesses … http://1.usa.gov/1boN7VS
Fischer Questions Role of Federal Agencies in ObamaCare Implementation
I wrote Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to question his recent comments that the Department of Education would be assisting in promoting ObamaCare. Specifically, I asked whether the Department of Education’s activities further its mission of educating our nation’s students. When discussing the use of federal, taxpayer dollars, we must ensure that these funds are being spent wisely and used for the purposes intended…. http://1.usa.gov/145iTnZ...Just yesterday, I also joined 38 Senators in writing the White House to call on the Administration to explain why more than 20 federal agencies with missions unrelated to health care are involved in the implementation of ObamaCare...http://1.usa.gov/1clMgrc
