Holiday Heroes
Recently on the Senate floor, I recognized the extraordinary service of Admiral Cecil D. Haney, whose tenure as Commander of U.S. Strategic Command, or STRATCOM, at Offutt Air Force Base has come to a close. With it, Admiral Haney will end his 38-year career as an exemplary officer and outstanding leader in the U.S. Navy.
Holiday Update
I hope you and your family enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know I did. This year, I spent the holiday with Nebraska service members stationed in Afghanistan and Qatar. It was truly an honor to visit with these brave men and women who are so far away from their home and loved ones. I thanked them, on behalf of all Nebraskans, for the sacrifices they and their families make to keep us safe.

Shop Local, Shop Small
Every year, when the Thanksgiving table is cleared and the dishes are stacked, Americans head out shopping. It’s a longstanding national tradition: we rise early on Black Friday and take to the mall, outlets, and local stores to hunt down holiday bargains. We write our lists, compare prices, and make our purchases.
Fischer Spends Thanksgiving With Troops From NE Stationed Overseas
“I was humbled and honored to spend this Thanksgiving with service members from Nebraska currently stationed in Qatar and Afghanistan. These brave service members are far away from their homes and loved ones this holiday season. I cherished the time I spent with each and every one of them. I know I join all Nebraskans when I say how thankful we are for the sacrifices they and their families make to keep us safe.”
Senator Fischer Teams with American Red Cross on Holiday Mail For Heroes Campaign
“The Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign is a special way to share our holiday cheer and deep appreciation with our veterans and service members. This year, these well-wishes will go to men and women right here in Nebraska: from those serving at Offutt Air Force Base to Nebraska veterans at VFW posts across the state. I hope you will join me this holiday season in expressing gratitude for all these Nebraskans have done to make our country and our communities stronger.”
Pilgrim Pride
It began when a few families made a daring and dangerous voyage across the Atlantic. Braving icy waves in leaky ships, they risked everything for the freedom to follow their beliefs and build a better life. When they landed at Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts, they had little food and no shelter. Relying on help from Native American Indians of the Patuxet tribe, these pilgrims endured New England’s bitter winter and gave thanks.
The Open Road
Everyone knows the allure of the open road. In Nebraska, the road can sometimes seem to stretch on forever beneath wide, majestic skies. Nebraskans also know the importance of good roads because we use them every day to do business, run errands, and visit loved ones. Across our vast and beautiful state, we count nearly 97,000 miles of public roads.
