Dear Friend, In May, the president signed my Recruit and Retain Act into law. This bipartisan legislation will help rebuild police departments nationwide — including in Nebraska. Inspired by my conversations with Nebraska law enforcement, this law will now make it easier to hire new officers and attract young people to the profession. Last month, I also spoke out against the antisemitism infiltrating America’s college campuses and condemned the administration’s radical policies. I introduced the She DRIVES Act to improve vehicle safety, and I worked to pass legislation to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which will provide funding for Nebraska’s airports. As we continue to rebuild following April’s disastrous storms, I also remain committed to working with Governor Pillen and the entire congressional delegation to ensure Nebraskans have the resources they need to recover. Read more about my work for you below. |

Laws enforcement is experiencing a staffing crisis nationwide. I regularly speak with officers and sheriffs across Nebraska who tell me high rates of resignation and retirement are dealing a blow to their departments. Based on those conversations, I introduced the Recruit and Retain Act. Last month, President Biden signed my bill into law. This bipartisan legislation will make it easier to both recruit new officers and retain existing ones. It helps finance hiring costs, like background checks and psychological evaluations, which enable departments to consider more applicants and hire more officers. It also creates a program to promote student interest in law enforcement careers and will investigate the causes and effects of these staffing challenges. |

After the October 7th massacre, President Biden expressed “ironclad” support for Israel’s right to defend itself as a sovereign nation. Yet last month, he denied Israel crucial military aid that would help them destroy Hamas. Israel is our nation’s closest ally in the Middle East, and our countries are bound by common interests. President Biden’s capitulation to the demands of the far-left, pro-Hamas wing of his party is disgraceful. I condemned his hypocrisy on the Senate floor last month, and also joined Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business to discuss the administration’s inconsistent support of Israel. As a press conference last month, I also spoke out against the pro-Hamas rallies on college campuses. As the Israel-Hamas conflict continues, I’ll stand strong with our ally and condemn the antisemitism espoused by terrorists abroad and radicals at home. |

In May, I held the administration accountable for more than just its failure on foreign policy. College Admissions: During a speech on the Senate floor, I called out President Biden’s Department of Education for focusing on student loan repayment schemes while neglecting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) rollout. High school seniors have a hard enough time making weighty decisions about their futures, and this FAFSA fiasco has made life more difficult for them, their parents, and college administrators. Biofuels: The administration’s newly released Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy Use in Transportation (GREET) model incentivizes foreign grown biofuels, like Brazillian sugarcane ethanol, at the expense of America’s biofuel producers. At an Appropriations Committee hearing last month, I pressed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Secretary Michael Regan on my concerns that the updated GREET model disadvantages Nebraska’s corn farmers, soybean farmers, and biofuel producers. Our policies shouldn’t boost foreign-grown feedstock at the expense of American producers. Electric Vehicles: As part of his plan to push EVs on Americans, President Biden is now changing the rules to keep Chinese graphite flowing into the United States. As usual, China will profit richly off the administration’s “green” dreams. I joined my Senate colleagues in introducing legislation to end EV tax credits that benefit our adversary. |

Last month, the Senate passed legislation to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for five years. This major legislation will ensure safety for the flying public, boost Nebraska’s manufacturing industry, and support regional airports across our state. I also pushed for better vehicle safety by introducing the She DRIVES Act. My bill would require the use of female crash test dummies to strengthen safety procedures for both men and women. |

Last month, U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy confirmed that the U.S. Postal Service will pause the movement of mail processing operations, including our North Platte facility, until January 2025. This decision followed a letter I sent to Postmaster General DeJoy urging him to put changes on hold. In April, our state was hit by massive storms that left destruction and devastation in their wake. But Nebraskans won’t be knocked down. We have a great spirit, and we help each other in times of need. I worked with Governor Pillen and the entire congressional delegation to secure the resources our state needs to rebuild. I’ll keep monitoring the rebuilding process closely and offering all the support I can. |
