Senator Fischer’s bill, S. 875 – The Workplace Advancement Act, includes the same language as her amendment, which was passed as part of the fiscal year 2016 budget on a bipartisan vote of 56 to 43. Fischer’s amendment was supported by 53 Republicans as well as Senators Angus King (I-Maine), Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.).

The Workplace Advancement Act includes provisions to prevent retaliation against employees who inquire about, or discuss, their salaries, while also reinforcing current law banning gender discrimination under both the Equal Pay Act and Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
