WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Armed Services committee and chairman of the subcommittee on Strategic Forces, released the following statement today following the nomination of Vice Admiral Charles Richard as Commander, U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM):

“As a former deputy commander of STRATCOM, Admiral Richard understands the responsibilities of the command and its mission well. With threats from Russia and China continuing to grow, nuclear deterrence is becoming more important than ever and STRATCOM requires experienced and capable leadership. In my role as the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, I look forward to visiting with Admiral Richard in person as the nomination process advances.”
