OMAHA, NEB. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, released the following statement this evening on the president’s plan moving forward in Afghanistan:

"The new Afghanistan strategy announced by the president this evening helps address the longstanding disconnect between our goals and our actions in the region. A stable Afghanistan remains vital to our national security interests. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I look forward to reviewing the greater details of the president’s plan.”

Prior to the president’s speech, Fischer was briefed on the new strategy by National Security Council staff members.
